Juergen Teller discovered photography after a bow-making apprenticeship was cut short by an allergic reaction to wood shavings. A student at the Bayerische Staatslehranstalt für Photographie in Munich from 1984 to 1986, Juergen moved to London in 1986. He has shot countless editorial and covers for the biggest magazines, some of the most memorable of which include Linda Evangelista, Justine Frischmann, Courtney Love, Kristen McMenamy and Christy Turlington.
Juergen’s photography is marked by his refusal to separate commercial fashion pictures from his most autobiographical, personal work. Subversive and unexpected, this work often features himself before the camera and favours idiosyncratic subjects and people over models. Exhibitions of his work have been held all over the world and have featured in numerous books, magazines and on record covers. Juergen has also produced campaigns for Hugo Boss, Katharine Hamnett, Marc Jacobs, Helmut Lang, Miu Miu, Yves Saint Laurent and Vivienne Westwood.
Often referred to as his muse, Juergen Teller’s photographs of Kate Moss showcase the rawness that is rarely otherwise seen in models, his true genius is in his sensitive perception and the ability to capture a single moment.
